Youth Leadership Forsyth (YLF) is a leadership development and community awareness program for high school juniors seeking to further develop and enhance their individual potential. It is a great opportunity for students from every school across our county to come together, to collaborate and challenge each other to rise above expectations. Established in 2000, this nine-month program engages the students in interactive workshops, meetings with key community leaders and exposure to many aspects of our community. Youth Leadership Forsyth is the only program of its kind in Forsyth County.
Each year, YLF receives around seventy-five applications but only 35-40 students are selected. The applications are made available online and through the schools right after Spring Break. The students have approximately one month to complete and return the application as directed on the form. After submission of the application, the YLF selection committee review every application and essay carefully to determine the students that would be best suited for the program. After review and selection, each student receives a letter from Leadership Forsyth to indicate their acceptance in the program.
During the program year each student will engage in interactive workshops. The workshops are led by community leaders, the YMCA, educators and leadership facilitators. The students will also participate in community service activities and meet with local leaders to learn more about how they can engage in our community and make an impact in Forsyth County. The students are also offered opportunities outside of class days to volunteer with various agencies and programs to utilize the leadership skills they develop through the program.
